Apple just concluded WWDC-25. And one of the announcements was about new versioning scheme. Versioning is very important.
Existing Apple versions
These are the versions that Apple was releasing.
Operating System | Platform | Full Version Number | Last Release Date |
---|---|---|---|
macOS | Mac | 15.5.1 | May 31, 2025 |
iOS | iPhone | 18.5.1 | June 2, 2025 |
iPadOS | iPad | 18.5.1 | June 2, 2025 |
watchOS | Apple Watch | 11.5 | May 28, 2025 |
tvOS | Apple TV | 18.5 | May 28, 2025 |
visionOS | Apple Vision Pro | 2.2 | April 29, 2025 |
Now hence forth, all the new version numbers would be consistently numbered 26. Definitely this is a good move to keep version numbers consistent.
So, from now on. it would all be more or less
Operating System | Platform | Full Version Number |
---|---|---|
macOS | Mac | 26.xx.yy |
iOS | iPhone | 26.pp.qq |
iPadOS | iPad | … |
watchOS | Apple Watch | … |
tvOS | Apple TV | … |
visionOS | Apple Vision Pro | … |
Some one was doing this earlier
How ever, it’s worth to mention that Ubuntu has been doing this since ages. See Ubuntu Releases. There would be few others, but it is quite easy to show the WiKi page from Ubuntu here.
